A 17-year veteran with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway lost his life in an unusual accident Tuesday morning. Officials reported that Samuel Lundy, 44, was using a remote device to move the train backward, when the last rail car jumped the tracks and pinned him against the building.
The accident occurred at the railway yard located at NE 37th Street and East River Road. They were dropping off loaded cars at a customer facility.
Emergency crews were called to the scene. Lundy was pronounced dead at the scene. He is survived by a wife and three children.
The Minneapolis Police Department was assisting at the scene. It is not clear what caused the car to derail. No one else was injured.
