A Minneapolis resident, Jolene M. Vassallo, 34, is in critical condition after being struck by a deputy sheriff in Brooklyn Park.

The accident occurred at 1:40 p.m. Saturday, at the intersection of 93rd Avenue N. and W. Broadway. Minnesota State Patrol reported that Deputy Jason L. Majeski was driving his 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe east on 93rd Avenue, responding to a call, when he broadsided the 2004 Hyundai Elantra being driven by Ms. Vassallo. On impact, the Hyundai spun into a 2004 Honda Pilot going west on 93rd Avenue. The Honda was driven by Jackson Ziah, 48, of Maple Grove.

Jolene M. Vassallo, the driver of the Hyundai, was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, in critical condition. Jackson Ziah, the driver of the Honda, suffered minor injuries. A passenger in Ziah’s car, Ethel R. Kpakah, 38, of Brooklyn Park, was treated and released from North Memorial. Officer Majeski was also treated and released from North Memorial.

According to the State Patrol website, Majeski was responding to a call and had his emergency lights on. The color of the signal lights at the time of the crash is still under investigation.
